CME Announcements and Disclosures

Professional Practice Gap

Healthcare is one of the fastest growing segments of U.S. employment, and also one of the most gender-segregated. Women comprise over 75% of healthcare workers but only 34% of practicing physicians. Females are under-represented within the higher-status physician specialties and in leadership roles throughout the healthcare sector.

Program Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze the implications for interprofessional collaboration of gender segregation in healthcare
  2. Link gender and power disparities in healthcare teams to their cultural origins
  3. Innovate ways of improving communication and patient outcomes through diversity on healthcare teams.
