Master Teacher Guild

The Master Teacher Guild was established in 2009, under the auspices of the Office of Faculty Affairs, as a means to recognize educational excellence and innovation in teaching at Ë®ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Franklin University of Medicine and Science. The Guild was inspired by the tradition of medieval and early modern European guilds, which were designed to ensure the quality of arts, crafts, and trades, and to develop the skills of apprentices seeking mastery in a given profession. The Guild was envisioned as an academy of masters dedicated to excellence in teaching, who would use their collective talents to enhance the educational programs throughout the university, its affiliates, the associated health clinics and teaching sites.

The Guild sought to facilitate, support and promote educational innovation and effectiveness; mentor faculty members to support their academic careers and pedagogical skills; model effective, efficient and innovative teaching practices in a rapidly changing environment; collaborate in assessment of teaching and learning; develop and disseminate pedagogical scholarship; and recognize and reward teaching excellence. The Guild also investigated the best ways to support the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), contributed to the idea of forming a Center for Teaching and Learning at RFU, and participated in the design of the Nexus for Faculty Success.

On June 30, 2024, the Guild members reached the end of their tenure, having recognized the need to re envision the future of their work. They will bring their knowledge, expertise, and skills into ongoing collaborations with the Nexus for Faculty Success, as the university opens a new chapter around faculty development.
